5% of all profits go to causes close to our hearts.
Independent school research to help UK parents choose with confidence.
Choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions a parent can make. Yet finding reliable, impartial information is surprisingly difficult. Ofsted reports are dense. Performance tables are fragmented. Community discussions are scattered across forums and social media.
The School Shortlist brings all of this together into one clear, evidence-led report — so you can focus on what matters for your child rather than wading through government spreadsheets.
Every report produced by The School Shortlist is grounded in publicly available, authoritative sources. We draw on Ofsted inspection reports, DfE performance tables (KS2 and KS4), the Parent View survey, Get Information About Schools (GIAS), published school policies, DfE absence and exclusions data, workforce statistics, and online community discussions.
Our research engine cross-references these datasets to produce a comprehensive picture of each school. Where data is unavailable or limited, we say so clearly. We do not fabricate information, infer ratings, or fill gaps with conjecture.
We believe parents deserve access to the same depth of analysis that education professionals use — presented in plain language, without jargon or spin.
Every report is grounded in publicly available, authoritative data. We never make claims that aren't supported by evidence.
The School Shortlist is an independent research service. Our reports are intended as a starting point for your decision-making, not a substitute for visiting schools, speaking with staff, or reviewing admissions policies yourself. School circumstances can change between inspection cycles and data publication dates.
We are not affiliated with Ofsted, the Department for Education, or any school. We do not accept advertising, sponsorship, or payments from schools. All data is drawn from publicly available sources and our own research.
We sell digital products (online reports) which are delivered immediately after payment. If something has gone wrong, or you believe you were charged incorrectly, contact us using the form below and we'll review it.
Our goal is to review and reply within 14 days.
Every claim is grounded in data. No rankings we can't justify.
No ads, no sponsored listings, no affiliate deals with schools.
Written for parents, not regulators. Plain language, practical insight.
We show our sources and acknowledge when data is limited.
Education has been good to many of us - and it's one of the reasons we're building The School Shortlist in the first place.
That's why we commit 5% of our profits to causes close to our hearts. In practice, that means supporting organisations and initiatives that help children and young people thrive - from widening access to learning, to community programmes, to practical support that makes a difference for families.
We don't treat this as a marketing gimmick. We want it to be a small, consistent commitment that grows as we do.
